Assura Tranforms Willington Primary Care With £2.5M Medical Centre

Leading healthcare property developer and investor Assura Group has officially opened the doors of a new £2.5m medical centre in Willington, South Derbyshire. The completed Willington Surgery, delivered in conjunction with LSP Developments, is now ready to transform access to NHS care for thousands of residents in the South Derbyshire area.

Retired senior partner Dr Brian Hands cut the ribbon for the new state of the art medical centre at the opening event today. Other dignitaries in attendance were Conservative MP for South Derbyshire Heather Wheeler, Chair of South Derbyshire District Council Councillor Ann Hood and County Councillor Martyn Ford.

The new building spans over 13,000 sq ft. and incorporates a GP practice with an independent pharmacy. The design of the new centre enables it to function as not just a GP surgery, but as a hub for a range of medical facilities for Willington and its neighbouring villages.

The surgery is capable of accommodating the anticipated growth of the area’s population over the next twenty years. It will offer its services to 8000 residents in Willington and a number of surrounding villages including Repton, Ticknall, Findern, Eggington and Milton.

Senior Partner GP Kyran Farrell, said: “It’s great to see the centre finished and opened after many years of campaigning and developing the project. The medical centre will provide life-changing support for many local people, while the new resources and improved training have allowed us to bring in the most gifted staff. We’re really pleased that we can now move in and start making a real difference to the area’s primary care.”

Amanda Roddy, development manager at Assura Group, said: “The official opening of Willington Surgery celebrated the completion of a really valuable project. As the demands on the healthcare sector continue to evolve, the development of integrated primary care buildings provide a range of services for patients all under one roof, as well as reducing the strain on local A&E wards. We look forward to the long-lasting impact the updated facilities will have.”

Edward Sutton, Managing Director of LSP Developments said: “We are delighted to have completed the new surgery for the practice, having worked extensively on the project since 2007. Big thanks have to go to Hanson, South Derbyshire District Council and the local councillors who were all instrumental in bringing the scheme to fruition. Special acknowledgement must also be paid to Dr Kyran Farrell for his commitment to delivering such a fantastic facility, which will serve the local population for many years to come.”

Architects West Hart designed the scheme. Law firm Browne Jacobson provided legal advice to the partners of the Willington Medical Practice.
