New Lindsay Leg Club to open in Wool thanks to our funding

Thanks to our funding patients in Wareham and the Purbeck area will shortly have access to a Lindsey Leg Club, a tried and tested way of treating patients with leg ulcers.

The Wellbridge Practice put forward the scheme in response to our call-out to practices in our 550 buildings around the country for the schemes which make a difference to health for their patients.  The Lindsay Leg Club is a well-established model of treating patients with leg ulcers in a non-clinical setting where they can socialise with other people.

The Wellbridge Practice said: “Research shows that those who have ulcers treated in Lindsay Leg Clubs heal more quickly and remain healed for longer than those treated either at home or in GP surgeries.”

Rowena Corbin RGN, Lead Nurse, The Wellbridge Practice said: “This will be a great benefit to patients with lower leg concerns at all 6 Purbeck GP practices. The surgeries will be working collaboratively to achieve better outcomes for their patients. The Dorset Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) has been very supportive and the 6 surgeries Patient Participation Groups (PPG) are giving us great volunteer support. We plan to open for ‘business’ in September and this grant from Assura is enabling us to pay for the venue and other non-medical costs until our volunteer fund raising is up and running. The scheme has been made possible thanks to the support of Tina Sturgeon, Practice Nurse and part-time Practice Manager at Corfe Castle Surgery who we have collaborated with on this project.”
