Duchess of Cornwall visits Frome Medical Centre
Frome Medical Centre in Somerset received a surprise visit from the Duchess of Cornwall last week.
The practice has several social prescribing services including sessions to help patients with issues such as loneliness, improving patients physical and mental health conditions.
The Duchess’s visit was to present an award to 87-year-old Gerald Franks who began the Frome and District Day Centre Lunch Club in 2000. The club, which was set up to help those that suffer with loneliness, gives members a hot meal and company.
Other services also spoke to the Duchess such as the talking café where 20-25 people meet on a weekly basis to have a chat and the ‘Couch to 5k’ walking club, which encourages patients to get involved with walking.
Tom Dike, our property manager for Frome Medical Centre said: “It’s fantastic to see the space at the practice being used for community projects such as the Frome District Day Centre Lunch Club and walking club. Social prescribing schemes such as this create lifelong friendships for patients and provide them with opportunities that they may not otherwise have.”
