New medical centre for Tonbridge gets green light
Patients in Tonbridge are to receive their care in a spacious and modern new medical centre – after planning permission was granted to create the new building.
The new Tonbridge Medical Group surgery building will provide considerably more space than the group’s existing premises – meaning the GPs will be able to care for many more patients as well as running minor surgery on site, a pharmacy and having space to deliver other clinical services and clinics.
Tonbridge and Malling Borough Council’s planning committee approved the scheme to build on the site of the former Teen and Twenty club. It will be large enough for both of the existing premises from which GP services are currently provided – at Pembury Road and Higham Lane – to be combined into one, modern purpose-built facility.
Senior Partner at the Tonbridge Medical Group Dr Tim Palmer says: “This is a really exciting opportunity for us to provide the kind of facility that our patients deserve. As well as providing a larger, more modern facility we will be able to better provide a wide range of services including minor surgery and potential opportunity to offer new services that promote wellbeing. Access for patients with disabilities will also be improved.”
Our development manager, Simon Gould, says: “These GPs have been making do without the space or layout they need for many years, and with primary care at the very front-line of the NHS’ vision for the future, they want to make sure they have buildings fit for that purpose. By giving the group the flexibility and space to bring new services into the building, this development will offer a huge opportunity to lead innovation for patients in future.”
The new building should be completed in spring 2019.
